Honeywell Scanning and Mobility (HSM) delivers rugged, reliable, high-performance mobile computers used in data collection and wireless communication solutions worldwide, enabling customers to effectively track and manage data and assets.  Currently we have an opening for a new position in our Fort Mill location


 


As a Senior Mechanical Engineer for HSM, you will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical components, parts, and assemblies that act as enclosures for portable industrial computer products. You will also lead a team that will test products to ensure conformance to specifications, and support of products through production.

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer you will use your demonstrated understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and thorough working knowledge of 3D Solid Modeling systems and finite element analysis software. Also, your knowledge of the product development process, with project experience from concept to manufacture, as well as your understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, i.e. injection molding, and be able to follow established procedures.

Primary duties include:



  • Applying mechanical design and analysis principles in the development of product concepts and detailed designs.

  • Performs detailed studies, experiments, research and tests required to design and product packaging.

  • Supporting resolution of production/manufacturing issues of a mechanical nature.

  • Prepare all production documentation and verify that all structural requirements have been met using Pro/Engineer and Pro/Mechanica

  • Testing of new and existing designs and troubleshooting of failures.

  • Independently determining and developing an approach to a solution with minimal supervision.

  • Following established procedures and best practices.

  • Participates as the technical liaison between Marketing, QA, and supplier representatives to ensure actual design and performance are well defined within scope of the project.

  • Directly interfacing with Asian design partners and suppliers.

  • Interfacing with cross-functional / cross-location development teams.

  • Keeps informed on the latest state-of-the art devices, techniques and technical developments and theories associated with the Mechanical Engineering discipline

  • Prepares feasibility studies and reports for assigned work making recommendations on technical problem resolution using Six Sigma Tools.

  • Complies with Honeywell policies, procedures, and HS&E requirements as applicable.

Basic Qualifications:



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of design experience

  • 5 years experience in electronic, mechanical and materials design theory

  • 2 years experience with Pro/Engineer and FEA design software

  • 2 years of injection molding experience

  • 2 years of product development experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree

  • 10 years of design experience in a high tech manufacturing environment

  • 5 years of injection molding experience

  • Thorough understanding of materials, particularly plastics

  • Proficient in tolerance analysis and GD&T

  • Experience with MATLAB, MathCad, etc.

  • Experience with new product development of consumer or industrial portable electronics products

  • Experience with consumer or industrial electronic product assembly methods

  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work well as a member of a team, and adapt well to a dynamic environment

  • Greenbelt certification is a plus

  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office and Project applications

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
