CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Under the direction of MWV Safety Health & Environment Department’s Global Product Stewardship Services Group, you will be a key decision maker and facilitator within MWV’s Specialty Chemicals Division (SCD).  You will influence the development and implementation of robust product stewardship (PS) programs. You will manage, and report on projects driven by changes in global legislation, customer specifications or requirements. 

This PS role provides leadership and support for compliance, process optimization, and project management in support of SCD. Specialty Chemicals is the world’s leading/largest supplier of activated carbons, asphalt emulsifiers, and lithographic & gravure printing ink resins. The role will support product compliance with global regulatory schemes, along with product safety and stewardship requirements.  This role will advocate prevention, detection, and resolution streams of work.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT MWV

As the Product Stewardship, Compliance Leader you will develop internal compliance and audit programs to ensure adherence to existing processes, while identifying and acting on opportunities to drive process improvement. You will influence leadership and have direct working relationships with new product development, sales and marketing, sourcing, and operations areas. Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Develop and implement new or optimized PS processes, driving consistency and efficiency across the division, including:
  • Prevention – new product development, new supplier, new raw materials, and test plans
  • Detection – periodic product safety and quality testing
  • Resolution – legal & regulatory notification, recalls, and consumer concerns
  • Review and create MSDS and Labels (US, GHS)
  • R&D samples and products
  • Provide TSCA regulation oversight:
  • Raw material and product review and plant production issues
  • Chemical identity determinations, confirmations, and searches
  • Facility compliance audits
  • Monitor and communicate global regulatory changes
  • Impacting SCD business
  • Associated with Chemicals of Concern
  • Provide Chemical Analysis and Regulatory Reviews associated with raw material sourcing, product development and facility use
  • Collaborate / assist Technical Units on strategies for new chemical development, regulatory compliance and market development activities
  • Support and complete US and Foreign chemical notifications (e.g., EU REACH, AICS, ENCS, etc.)
  • Effectively communicate written and orally within organization, external customers (e.g., product regulatory inquiries) & regulatory authorities (e.g., data requests)
  • Interpret policy or regulations. Develop, implement, manage and report on PS projects due to changing legislation, customer requirements, or business need
  • Performs process reviews to ensure compliance with products stewardship processes and required outcomes.
  • Collect and publish PS metrics to drive internal and supplier improvements.
  • Support SCD’s Responsible Care process and initiatives
  • Identify, suggest, and implement SCD process improvements

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • A degree in Physical Sciences (Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred)
  • Familiarity with International Chemical Regulatory Schemes (e.g., Canada, China, Australia, EU, etc.)
  • Minimum of 4 years compliance experience and working in highly cross-functional processes.
  • General understanding of organic chemistry and industrial chemical manufacturing.
  • Ability to influence within and across the organization from senior management through individual contributors.
  • Solid process and project management skills and self-directed, team player.
  • Strong bias for action and personal accountability
  • Concise written and verbal communication skills and competencies with MS Office applications.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25%
