Job Description: The Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineering Supervisor provides the management function for the Performance Analysis, Attitude Control System, Sensor(s), Boost Guidance Systems and Mission Planning activities on the NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) at Wallops Island, VA. The GNC Supervisor is required to have a strong and varied technical understanding sufficient to manage the NSROC GNC activities. This requires the inherent ability to determine the flight worthiness of various subsystem performance, flight dynamics and mission planning to meet or exceed customer requirements. Analytical skills to support studies of subsystem design, performance, and stability characteristics are prerequisite to ensure that NSROC and NASA goals are achieved. Varied understanding of sensor operation and capabilities with the ability to analyze flight data to enhance future system performance is required. The position requires alignment with the program goals while providing support in operations, development effort and component/subsystem acceptance. Duties: 1.Direct supervision of analytical, developmental and operational aspects of sounding rocket Guidance, Navigation and Control systems. 2.Provide management support for the design, development integration and/or operational support of attitude control systems. 3.Supervise the flight dynamics analytical efforts to support varied flight qualified vehicle configurations and new vehicle configurations. 4.Responsibilities include mission planning, system design, flight software specification, system integration, test and launch preparation oversight. 5.Post flight data reduction for all system (vehicle) and subsystem performance aspects, including real time and definitive attitude determination support also required. 6.Sensor hardware oversight includes production, testing, refurbishment and operation of a suite of sensors. 7.The engineering supervisor will ensure specifications, presentations, and reports supporting the above activities are adequate for internal and external support. 8.Position requires subcontractor oversight and management. Minimum Education, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements: Masters degree preferred in Engineering or Physics Ten or more years direct experience with GNC systems, components and subsystems, sensors and/or ACS flight software. Experience in vehicle dynamics, GNC design, development, integration and/or flight support of packages. Specific experience applicable to mission planning, attitude sensors and/or ACS flight software. Strong communication and documentation skills are a must. Technical understanding sufficient to support GNC design and test data to determine flight worthiness of subsystem performance, flight dynamics and mission plan to meet or exceed customer requirements. Analytical skills to support studies of subsystem design, performance and stability characteristics. Thorough understanding of sensor operation and capabilities with the ability to analyze flight data to enhance future system performance. Strong computer skills required. Strong leadership ability is required to manage a diverse technical staff of 16 to 20 electrical, mechanical, aerospace and software engineers and technicians. Bachelors degree required. . Security Clearance Required.
