Located within the greater Chicago metropolitan area, ours is a profitable, global public company with a market cap that is nearing $1B. We are engaged in process manufacturing, with facilities established on five continents, and our products are generally recognized as market leaders. Organic growth is quite healthy, and coupled with key acquisitions, partnerships and joint ventures, both revenue and profit numbers have been consistently impressive.
Scope and Responsibility
Ours is a challenging, highly visible, opportunity-laden step-up role leading a newly restructured function while reporting directly to a “C” level executive. Primary responsibility will include strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, negotiation and issue resolution for all transportation, including rail, International and Inter-company, and the associated contracts and agreements (i.e., ports, container, bulk). Significant functional relationships (purchasing, operations, sales, finance, customer service) will include working with multiple business units to develop efficient, cost effective delivery models based on current and forecasted business, while managing and controlling inventory. Further, the Manager will develop or recommend policies, procedures, systems and programs to ensure continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing/distribution stream (raw material to customer), and provide project management/leadership to both internal and external teams to achieve business results. This role becomes ever-increasingly more strategic as tactical issues are resolved. We anticipate travel will fall into the 30% range, with much of it predictable.
Candidate Qualifications
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline, with an advanced degree advantageous, and 7-10 years of significant transportation management experience, some international included, with a progressive shipper/supplier company. The ideal candidate is also an experienced project manager who has had direct responsibility for developing and implementing new business processes. At core, being a sound businessperson is essential. Those who succeed within our culture are bright, proactive, comfortable in a hands-on lean environment, and possess exceptional communication skills. Our Manager will further be imbued with unquestioned integrity, and possess strong demonstrably successful negotiating and analytical skills; a problem solver, strategic planner, and innovative, empathetic leader.LOCAL CANDIDATES STRONGLY PREFERRED.
