The Vice President - Supply Chain management is responsible for the procurement and on time delivery of all raw materials, supplies, and other components required by the company. This position will direct the activities of the corporate supply chain and provide direction to the plant operations purchasing teams. This position is charged with ensuring that all product and material purchases meet defined quality standards. The Vice President must be a visionary leader and change agent who will drive the implementation of a procurement strategy to frame the company’s practices, policies and priorities and continually refine our worldwide efficiency and reduce costs .The Vice President Supply Chain management must excel in the following key areas: development and application of procurement metrics; leadership; organizational development; cross-enterprise integration; resource management and development; and relationship management.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice President – Supply Chain Management will:
- Provide leadership in managing product and general procurement to meet plan cost reduction targets and sharing best practices with the operations
- Initiate working capital improvement through payment terms extensions, consolidation. advantageous terms, and raw materials replacement..
- Assess existing procurement systems/procedures/philosophies (including measurement methodology) for insight and opportunities for potential improvement; develop a thorough understanding of what the company buys, and from whom they buy.
- Ensure all product/material purchases meet defined quality standards and monitor internal customer satisfaction with procurement services.
- Anticipate key supplier problems that could affect supply. Maintain close working relationships with the supplier so that the company is always fully informed.
- In conjunction with the international managers, evaluate international procurement opportunities.
Develop and execute procurement strategies that take advantage of global strengths in areas of cost distribution and engineering.
- Increase customer leverage and buying power through supplier rationalization and create a more
Competitive negotiating environment to obtain purchase cost savings.
- Review bid proposals from suppliers and enter into contracts within budgetary limitations.
- Manage and develop exempt and non-exempt staff members.
- Contract negotiation and management to obtain best price and delivery conditions.
- Develop and implement a process to monitor and validate supplier performance ..
- Work closely with engineering and production to support new product and new vendor development and reduce lead time while reducing costs.
- Work closely with sales teams around the world to deal with and cover unexpected sales and supply issues. Present opportunities where lower resin prices may help sales situations.
- Track all purchase orders to ensure that raw products are available to plants and are transported at the least cost.
- Start and continue weekly sales and operations planning and reporting meetings.
- Seek new technologies and new cheaper resins which continue to allow us to produce quality products in all markets.
- Plan, forecast and communicate up and down the organization.
- Research markets to determine whether multiple or single supplier sourcing best meets the company needs.
Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Business Administration, or other evidence of substantial business knowledge, Additional achievement such as the attainment of Certified Purchasing Management (CPM) is desirable.
At least 5 years of progressive experience in managing functions and departments dealing with procurement and resin sourcing issues ( HDPE,LDPE, etc) is necessary to be successful in this job .. Direct experience with post-merger integration programs or corporate consolidations would be considered a plus. Knowledge of offshore sourcing and importing issues is required ..
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with:
- Business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and procurement management In both the domestic and international markets..
- Experience with managing progressive procurement functions. The ideal candidate should have a track record of enhancing the procurement function as measured by reduced cost, improved delivery, and the implementation of successful sourcing strategies.
Proven Skills in:
- Leadership and advocacy to improve the sourcing and procurement performance of the business.
- Analysis and problem solving skills.
- Building and maintaining relationships with constituents and internal staff.
