JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary and Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by directing the end to end procurement operations for Manufacturing and Print/Packaging business units at Starbucks Coffee Company.  Develop strategies and initiatives in the procurement area of the supply chain process.  Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:


 





  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.



  • Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.




 


Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:


 





  • Develops and monitors performance against financial targets for gross margin and cost of goods, and operating targets for product quality, in-stock performance, inventory turns, on-time deliveries and productivity.



  • Develops annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.



  • Leads development of procurement processes to ensure reliable sources of supply, improve service and quality, and reduce costs and supplier lead times.



  • Leads development of product quality and safety policies and procedures, and specifications for raw materials, production processes and finished goods.



  • Leads development, maintenance and execution of annual and long-term strategic plans for all supply chain functions, including manufacturing, procurement, planning, inventory control and technical services.



  • Leads ongoing development of production forecasts and plans, to reduce manufacturing and supply chain costs, improve inventory turns and meet customer needs.



  • Participates in development of information systems to improve production forecasting and enhance planning capabilities and management of the business.



  • Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.



  • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.




 


Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:


 





  • Directs purchasing of other raw materials to support manufacturing operations, such as flavors, extracts and packaging components, ensuring consistent sources of supply and meeting cost, schedule, service and quality needs.



  • Oversees assessment of manufacturing and information technology innovations to enhance productivity and capacity, and implementation of project initiatives.



  • Oversees internal and external (outsourced and supplier-based) manufacturing operations, ensuring that company productivity and cost standards are met. Oversees selection and negotiations wtih co-packers, and ensures contract compliance in all areas of performance.



  • Oversees production planning and forecasting for all manufacturing operations to ensure appropriate levels of raw

  • Creating and managing supply chain and cost of goods budgets, including fixed and variable labor (15 years)



  • Managing total supply chain operations in a wholesale revenue environment (15 years)



  • Developing and executing strategic plans in a high-growth supply chain environment (10 years)



  • Organizational leader, mentor and team builder (10 years)



  • Working cross-functionally in both large and small organizations (10 years)




 



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


 





  • Ability to perform and understand financial analyses, including Return on Investment (ROI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and payback periods on capital expenditures



  • Ability to develop and oversee complex material resource planning (MRP), production scheduling, purchasing, and related supply chain systems



  • Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
