Senior Manager, Mobile Advertising Channel/Network Business Development

Mobile advertising is one of the most dynamic new frontiers in advertising and a multi-billion dollar opportunity for Microsoft. As the Internet and computing are reinvented on mobile devices - ever smaller, more personal and ubiquitous - advertising is evolving very quickly onto mobile. Mobile advertising opportunities currently span a broad range of interactive media, from display to search to messaging to in-application experiences from Microsoft and our syndication partners.

Microsoft Advertising (MSA) is looking for a North American Business Development leader for the Mobile Advertising (“MoAd”) business team. The MoAd team is the business partner for the Mobile Advertising Experiences Platform (MaxPlat) development team. Together, these two teams deliver the platform, infrastructure, sales capability and investment to support mobile advertising as a business model for numerous Microsoft owned and operated and third party syndicated mobile inventory. Over 40 projects in all three divisions at Microsoft are dependent in whole or in part on mobile advertising as a major element of their monetization strategy.

Microsoft is looking for an experienced business development leader with an outstanding track record in online/digital Advertising Business development, combined with a strong passion for the mobile industry and the opportunity to establish partnerships that extend Microsoft’s Advertising and Publishing platform’s into the mobile space. This is a high-impact, high-visibility opportunity for an experienced Business Development leader looking to build and scale a significant new business for Microsoft. The role will be based in the Puget Sound area and will report to the Mobile Advertising Global Director of Business Development.

Overall responsibilities include:
Manage deals and relationships with major mobile Technology Application partners, OEMs, publishers, ecosystem partners and third-party resellers
Support global MoAd business development strategy including third-party inventory procurement, data acquisition (e.g. for targeting), ecosystem partnerships and resale channels
Drive coordinated mobile network development within APS including cross-media sourcing and processes to support the development of a fully scaled mobile ad media network at Microsoft. Must be familiar with Online Adversting ecosystem and have a proven ability to translate and/or extend new or existing partnerships into Mobile advertising opportunities which increase revenue or distribution from Microsoft’s advertising and search efforts
Support the MoAd partnership strategy and execution on that with interdependent teams within Microsoft (such as E&D’s Mobile Platform & Services Business Development team).

To be successful, the Senior Business Development leader lead will be someone who:

Has 7-10 years Business Development experience, preferably in the mobile industry.
Has 5-7 years direct experience with online advertising and, in particular, mobile display and search advertising.
Has 5-7 years in third-party inventory procurement, data acquisition (e.g. for targeting), ecosystem partnerships and resale channels
Has demonstrable Advertising Channel/Reseller Partner Development experience
Has proven experience with acquiring and managing major syndication or other types of partnerships; experience with advertising syndication preferred
True ability to create and generate a business development vision in which people seek a role on his/her team.
Proven background of developing, negotiating and closing high impact relationships with partners and vendors. Experience dealing with internal stakeholders in executing a deal including Legal, Finance, Product Management, R&D, PR, etc.
Experience working in highly matrixed organization with the ability to both lead and support deal negotiations Experience in achieving Channel/Network partnership business results in a multi-stakeholder environment.
Is willing to travel and able to multi-task within and across Microsoft divisions, time zones and geographies.
Has excellent business model development, presentation, communication and reporting skills.
Deals with ambiguity and embraces change.
B.A. or B.S. required; MBA preferred.
