The Real Estate Senior Operations Analyst (SOA) is the coordinator of the deal lifecycle and provides financial and operational decision support for CarVal Investors related to new investments, ongoing investment management and reporting.  This includes developing close working relationships with business and external partners; internal and external accountants, attorneys and tax advisors; and the investment advisors.  Analytical skills are necessary to review new and existing deals from many perspectives including ongoing deal monitoring, asset manager audits, valuation, compliance and management.  The SOAs area of geographic focus will be Mexico.
 
 
Principal Accountabilities
 
 20%  Manage and enhance deal level reporting processes and content to better monitor performance and risk. Provide management and Investment Advisors with deal and portfolio level analysis and  reports to meet information requirements as needed.  Provide cash inflow and outflow projections to treasury to assist with cash management.
 
15%  Review cash distributions from investments.  Validate accuracy and compliance with legal documents.  Perform analysis on actual performance versus expected performance and communicate results to Investment Advisors.
 
15% Coordinate monthly valuation process; more detail and analysis occurring at quarter-end.  Assist the Investment Advisors with review of discounted cash flow analysis. Analyze and discuss significant changes in the valuation with the Investment Advisors.  Ensure final signoff and documentation.
 
10%  Manage and execute deal closings.   Collaborate with Investment Advisors and asset managers to facilitate the closing of deals.  Complete the deal system setup, confirm receipt of required internal approvals and legal documents, and coordinate funding of the investment.   
  
10%  Work with the audit department on an on-going basis to provide input into the risk assessment of asset managers and conduct the audits of asset managers.  Audit tasks include agenda development, documentation, testing and reporting.  Frequency of the audits is dependent on the risk weighting. 
 
10%  Ensure CarVal investments adhere to controls, including financial audits, tax returns, and document compliance, at the acquisition vehicle level.
 
5%  Perform quarterly reviews of operating company/partnership/investment financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure integrity of internal control processes and reporting by CarVals asset managers.  Collaborate with internal and external accountants to ensure proper accounting treatment.
 
5%  Work with the audit department and Investment Advisor in conducting operational due diligence when new asset managers/investment opportunities are identified.
 
5%  Investment structure review.  Liaise with tax, financial reporting, treasury and legal departments on the structuring of new and existing investments.   Coordinate and obtain approval for agreed investment structures.
 
5%  Review legal documents.  Work with internal and external counsel to ensure all partnership/investment documents incorporate proper controls, GAAP, tax and other operational requirements.  Ensure deal performs in accordance with rights and obligations contemplated in the documents.
 Required:
  • Four-year accounting degree
  • 4+ years accounting/financial experience
  • Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of GAAP and audit skills
  • Creative problem solver and self motivated to initiate changes in policies/procedures
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate tough messages
  • Strong computer and Excel skills
  • Strong demonstrated self-motivation and high level of initiative
  • Strong financial background and working knowledge of financial models
  • Willingness to travel - domestica and international
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and priorities and a sense of ownership
