Mechanical Systems Manager

Position Title: Mechanical Systems Manager        

Reports to: V/P of Technology Products & Delivery Systems            

Location: Denver, CO                                                

Job Purpose: To provide technical expertise for equipment and hardware utilized for the manufacture and delivery of bulk and packaged explosives and their precursors. Be acknowledged and sought out by others to provide considered technical opinions for issues in this area.

Essential Duties  Safety, Health, Environment & Security·         Model SH&E leadership through all personal activities and interactions·  Actively participate in the hazard identification and risk assessment of any new technologies· Champion change control processes, actively participating in their application·         Champion the use of all SH&E systems and programs, including Take 5.·         Seek alternate technologies, consistent with companies key sustainability targets.·   Participate in review of any incidents, as required. 

Performance measures·  Take 5’s completed·         Participation in SH&E activities· Completion of actions on SH&E improvement plan· Alteration Authority closeout performance 

Commercial Ownership – run the business as if its your own·         Identify improvement opportunities in existing manufacturing and construction processes via the use of new technologies or materials· Lead the design, testing and construction of innovative manufacturing and delivery systems· Ensure designs and novel technologies are robust through the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) or other suitable analysis·  Provide source of mechanical engineering excellence to OMS· Document design basis for key elements of process technology

 Creative Customer Solutions·  

Develop cost effective designs to produce or deliver Emerging Technology products· Define standards and protocols as appropriate for the development and use of technologies applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors.· Ensure that all intellectual property generated is appropriately protected·  Scan environment to look for novel technologies applicable to the manufacturing, construction and delivery of bulk explosives and their precursors. 

Performance measures·         Patents etc in place· Novel technologies identified and assessed· Standards and protocols identified  

Working Together·         Provide technology consultation and advice to others in the area of Bulk & Packaged Explosives Manufacturing and Delivery.· Proactively contribute to programs as required

 Operating environment:·         This role is responsible for identification and assessment of new technologies applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors.·   A key challenge of this role is to identify alternate technology development scenarios and to assess and provide key recommendations to the business. ·  The role reports to the Vice President – Products & Delivery Systems and forms an integral part of the overall Products & Delivery Systems team. This role interacts globally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

 Dimensions:· influence over R&D spend of $10M AUD.  3-5 direct reports 

Qualification requirements · Science, Engineering or similar, Masters or higher qualification.(Sufficient proven research capability may be acceptable)· 10-15 years relevant industrial experience.

Physical requirements ·  Typical office work setting.·         Moderate physical stress and occasional long hours. ·         Require activities include sitting, walking, reaching, bending, frequent use of hands and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
