Role Summary/Purpose:
The Senior Engineer – Rotor Design will be responsible for design optimization. In this role you will perform component and system trade studies to optimize designs to balance reliability & safety, performance, life cycle cost, product cost and schedule.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Utilize your understanding of manufacturing processes, NDE and quality assurance
- Thoroughly document all work
- Execute conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs using sound design fundamentals as well as advanced design methods
- Execute redesigns of existing products for improvements to performance, cost / producibility and/or life
- Lead projects, guide and mentor less-experienced engineers as they develop design expertise
- Leverage personal capabilities by effectively leading domestic and global team members to contribute to projects
- Establish plans to define and deliver quality results on time
- Participate in establishing technology needs, and define roadmaps to close gaps and drive technology that will improve the quality and competitiveness of GE’s products.
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Coordinate projects with manufacturing, sourcing, materials, product definition and thermal systems teams to assure design success
- Create and Maintain relationships across GE Businesses to share methods and best practices
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Minimum 15 years of Gas Turbine Engineering Experience
- Minimum15 years of Gas Turbine Design experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in Gas Turbine Mechanical Design & Lifing techniques and tools
- Green belt certified (GE employees only)

Desired Characteristics:
- Knowledge of design practices, drafting standards and design configuration control and scheduling systems
- Knowledge of gas turbine materials and manufacturing processes
- Analytical experience with finite element analysis and the fundamentals of stress, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
- Rotating component design experience
- Advanced engineering degree
- Experience utilizing Unigraphics and/or ANSYS
- Prior component design ownership experience
- Experience with GE Energy product line
- Demonstrated interpersonal and technical skills
- Customer satisfaction mindset with strong DFSS orientation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Minimum 1 year Engineering / Technology Leadership Experience
- Travel to Global Design, Manufacturing and Service Center Sites
- Black Belt certified (GE employees only)
