Requirements:
- Smart and creative with strong proven problem solving skills in active product development environments.
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, and hardworking
- Strong communication skills are essential with the ability to clearly present ideas to a cross-functional team and manufacturing partners.
- Must show the strong sense of urgency required in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- ‘Cradle to grave’ experience is ideal.
- BSME from an accredited University (or equivalent).
- 7 years minimum experience as an Engineer excelling in a product development environment focused on innovation and ideally working with Industrial Designers to develop the aesthetic forms for various products.
- Pro/E experience required with emphasis on complex surfacing.
- Must have experience designing parts using various materials and processes especially Injection Molding.
- First hand experience in Blow Molding, Rotational Molding, Casting, Metal Forming, and other manufacturing processes is very beneficial.
- Production experience working with international suppliers is ideal (Focus on Asian suppliers).
- Experience with engineering documentation, including creating detail drawings and developing a BOM is required. (Knowledge of GD&T is a plus.)
- Project management experience and supervision over teams is ideal.
- Experience in consumer products / packaged goods industry is beneficial especially if it involved user interface and ergonomics.
Function Description: Responsible for the mechanical conceptualization, development and documentation of new products and support existing products. Will work closely with other staff members, including Design, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Operations. Utilize Pro/E software to construct 3D data and documentation required for the production of new products. Create functional models, mechanical drawings, bills of materials, written reports, and inspection protocols as well as perform product testing. Interface with our manufacturing partners in Asia. Rely on instructions and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Activities:
- Analysis of competitive products and competitive solutions.
- Identification of potential materials, manufacturing methods, and sources.
- Create 3D computer models in Pro/E.
- Develop mechanical prototypes to determine design feasibility.
- Work closely with Industrial Design to incorporate mechanical solutions with design directions to create best in class products.
- Resolve structural, mechanical, and development issues.
- Develop performance requirements and testing protocols.
- Product testing and evaluation.
- Assist in preparation of unit cost estimates.
- Work with the overall product development team to provide accurate, well-defined and convincing verbal, written, and graphic presentations.
- Generate the required documentation, material specifications, and control drawings necessary for the successful manufacturing of our products.
- Keep current in the areas of design-related materials, processes, disciplines, and technologies that are pertinent to our products and industries.
- Work with our manufacturing partners to manage tight timelines and produce high quality products.
- Develop QC requirements and pre-ship inspection protocols.
- Travel to customers and vendors as required, including international travel.
